Nshupu Secondary School had recorded Grade F in mathematics every single year since it opened in January 2000. Then Numbers Foundation arrived.
For over a decade, the students of Nshupu were not failing because they lacked ability. They were failing because they lacked support — too few maths teachers, no mentorship, and no one who believed the results could be different.
In 2023, Numbers Foundation began working with Form Four students at Nshupu, partnering with Foundation Le Solstice Tanzania to deliver intensive coaching, remedial teaching and direct mentorship. The results that year changed the school's history forever.
"For the first time since this school was founded, our students achieved Grade A in mathematics. Numbers Foundation didn't just visit us — they believed in our students when we had almost stopped believing ourselves."
— Headteacher, Nshupu Secondary School
We measure success in exam halls and changed lives. Here is what our interventions have achieved across Tanzania.
In 2023 — our first intervention year — Nshupu broke nine consecutive years of Grade F. Three students achieved Grade A for the first time in the school's history.
After our 2024 programme, Grade C rose from 6% to 42% in the National Assessment. Grade E was eliminated entirely.
Three students who scored A- through our programme received full sponsorships for secondary and university education.
From headteachers to parents to students — the people who experience our work firsthand share what Numbers Foundation has meant to them.
For the first time since this school was founded, our students achieved Grade A in mathematics. Numbers Foundation didn't just visit us — they believed in our students when we had almost stopped believing ourselves.
The workshop gave me tools I had never been taught in training. I can see the difference in my classroom — students are engaging, asking questions, and actually enjoying mathematics.
My daughter was afraid of maths. After Numbers Foundation visited her school, she came home excited about a problem she solved. That excitement turned into an A in her national exams.
