A registered Tanzanian NGO working at the intersection of education, community and ambition — transforming mathematics from a barrier into a bridge since 2020.

Numbers Foundation is a non-governmental organisation registered in Tanzania with Registration Number 00NGO/R/2112. We address the critical challenge of mathematics performance across primary and secondary schools, viewing it not merely as an academic issue but as a question of national development — because every student who fails mathematics is a future doctor, engineer or economist that Tanzania loses.
Founded in 2020 by Mr. Agrey Kimaro, Numbers Foundation began as a grassroots response to a crisis he witnessed as a mathematics educator: schools where no student had passed mathematics with a Grade A in nearly a decade — not because of a lack of intelligence, but a lack of support.
Starting with volunteer school visits and small community workshops in Arusha, the foundation grew rapidly. Within three years, it had become a registered national NGO, entered a formal partnership with the Mathematics Association of Tanzania and the University of Dar es Salaam, launched the Numbers Online School digital platform, and documented measurable improvements in student performance at multiple schools.
Today Numbers Foundation reaches over 5,300 students across Tanzania — training teachers, coaching Olympiad teams, supporting vulnerable students through charity, and using sport, music and film to reshape how Tanzanian society sees mathematics.
Every child can succeed in mathematics — given the right environment, teachers, encouragement and opportunities. We do not accept failure as inevitable.
Teachers are the key — improving teacher skills and confidence is the most sustainable way to change student outcomes across an entire system.
Community is the foundation — lasting change requires the engagement of parents, local leaders, schools and the wider public, not just classroom intervention.
Excellence should be celebrated — recognising achievement in mathematics changes attitudes, inspires peers, and builds a culture of aspiration.
Education is dignity — our charity work is not merely about materials. It is about ensuring every child has the dignity of equal access to quality education.

Mr. Agrey Kimaro grew up watching brilliant students in Tanzania fail not because they lacked intelligence — but because they lacked access, confidence, and encouragement in mathematics.
As a mathematics educator, Agrey witnessed first-hand how poor teaching methods, insufficient teacher support, and deep-seated fear of the subject were robbing Tanzania of a generation of engineers, doctors and scientists. He saw students in schools like Nshupu Secondary — bright, motivated young people — graduating with Grade F in maths year after year, not because of inability, but because the system had failed them.
"When I saw the same school failing its students in mathematics for nine consecutive years, I knew this wasn't a student problem. It was a system problem. And systems can be changed."
In 2020, Agrey founded Numbers Foundation with a simple but powerful conviction: that every Tanzanian child, given the right support and encouragement, can succeed in mathematics. Starting with volunteer school visits and small community workshops, the foundation has grown into a registered national NGO — now impacting over 5,300 students across Tanzania and representing the nation at the international Mathematics Olympiad stage. Mr. Kimaro also serves as the acting Head Coach of the Tanzania Mathematics Olympiad national team.
